Equipment Tips

Skates
A properly tightened skate can make a world of difference to your Mite. Please be sure to tighten his/her skates to the point where it is not uncomfortable but very tight.

Hint: At the top of the skate (Toes) this area must be laced tightly, the middle of the skate should be
very snug, not as tight as tight as the top. Finally, the ankle area should be laced up firmly. If your
finger can fit underneath any of the laces then the skate is to loose. Have your Mite walk around a bit in the changing area prior to coming on the ice to make sure his/her ankles are not leaning inwards, for example.

Helmets
Very important. Please ensure your  Mites' helmet is on very snug and the straps are securely fastened. You should not be able to hold his/her face mask and swing it side to side while their head is stationary. If this is the case, then the screws on the sides of the helmet need to be tightened.

Mouth Guard
I highly encourage all our Mites to have a mouth guard.

Sticks
I've seen many different heights and styles of sticks being used by our Mites. First, please have
them use a Youth-size stick and not an Adult size. Second, the length of the stick should be
proportionate to the height of your Mite. Hint: The top of the stick should be level with his/her chin (and NOT reach the top of his/her helmet).

Socks
Please ensure your Mites' socks are taped up or strapped on their garment under their hockey pants.
Loose socks can make for an uncomfortable stride when your Mites are skating up and down the ice or doing crossover drills.

Please feel free to ask any of the coaches about the equipment points mentioned above.

Thanks in advance for your support.
